Cirque du Soleil's Banana Shpeel will close at New York City's Beacon Theatre on June 27 ahead of plans for a North American tour beginning this fall. The production was originally scheduled to run through August 29.
Drawing inspiration from the vaudeville era, Shpeel follows the antics of master of ceremonies Schmelky (Danny Rutigliano) and his zany crew of clowns as they present a variety of visually stunning Cirque acts.
Directed by David Shiner, Banana Shpeel premiered at the Chicago Theatre on November 19, 2009, began performances in New York on April 29 and opened on May 19. Tour dates will be announced at a later time.
